Trusting your life

I found the following prayer forming part of an artist’s illustration. The text was labeled a Lakota prayer, though I confess it doesn’t sound Native American to me. I love it anyway, wherever it came from.  I wanted to share it with you.

Teach me how to trust my heart,
my mind, my intuition, my inner knowing,  the senses of my body, the blessings of my spirit.  Teach me to trust these things so that I may  enter my sacred space and love beyond my fear,  and thus walk in balance with the passing of each glorious sun.

When I first began my spiritual journey, an inability to trust my own experience was crippling my walk and stunting my spiritual growth because I was too afraid to believe in the movements of Holy Spirit in my life. It wasn’t until a wise and gentle spiritual director began to walk with me through the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises that my spirit truly opened up and God’s grace was able to flood in. My spiritual director taught me not to censor and discard every inner experience out of fear, that these things could be discerned, and that ultimately I was in the hands of the Holy One, who will always prevail with me.

May you trust beyond your fear, and may the Holy One teach and lead you into joy through the deep intuitions and experiences of your life. Blessings on you on this beautiful day!
